Visits & Events

Over the past few years, prior to Covid restrictions curtailing visits, the WI has undertaken a diverse and interesting range of both social and educational activities. Social lunches in restaurants both local, supporting our local businesses, and further afield enable members to get together in larger groups. One such lunch celebrated International Women's Day

Educational visits have included a tour of HMS Northumberland, as featured in “Warship” on BBC 1, a tour of a decommissioned nuclear submarine in Devonport Naval Yard and an inspection tour of the immaculately clean waste disposal incineration site in Plymouth

As well as these we make an annual visit to Pentillie Castle for the Shakespeare Evening in a magical setting on the banks of the Tamar. The members bring and share an alfresco picnic, then enjoy an evening of Shakespeare performed by the Lord Chamberlains Men. This year's event took place on 20th July 2022.

For 2022 Covid restrictions permitting, further visits were planned as follows:

                   The Flete Estate                          March

                   Rose and Crown (Lunch)           April

                   Lukesland Sculpture Garden    May

                   Newton Abbot Museum            July

We had a fabulous visit to Flete House courtesy of Marcia.  The interior was lovely and the history fascinating.

We then visited Lukesland where the spring gardens were quite spectacular. This was capped off by afternoon tea in Lukeland House cafe.

We are always open to suggestions for educational and social visits. We look forward to having new members join us.
