Choir

The WI choir was formed over 12 years ago and has about a dozen singers at the moment, most of whom are founder members.  Ably run by Joyce Stickley, who puts up with its many foibles, the choir has participated in the annual WI Area Carol Service in Exeter Cathedral every year since 2009, with the inevitable exception of 2020.  In 2021 our choristers were among a very exclusive group celebrating the resumption of this traditional service.

Before the Covid pandemic the choir provided entertainment in nursing homes and to groups of senior citizens.  We are currently rehearsing for an informal concert to celebrate our WI’s Jubilee.

Singing in two or three part harmony, we enjoy a variety of music ranging from numbers from musicals to more traditional songs.  Our aim is to have fun and learn about music while making a good sound in pleasant company.

Having competed for some time with the Upholstery Class, who were in the Main Hall while we were in the small meeting room, we finally admitted defeat, realising that the beat of the hammers would never keep proper time to our singing, we changed time and place.   We now meet on Wednesday afternoons from 2.15 – 3.15pm in the WI Hall Main Room where we have more space and can actually hear ourselves sing!

We always welcome new members who enjoy singing and who feel able to commit to our weekly practice during term time.  Please contact Joyce Stickley if you are interested.
